Her world starts with a sound.
Scratch. Scratch.
Tap. TapTap. Tapppppppppppp.
but not rhythmically,
she can’t find a pattern.

She’s locked in place.
can’t move, can’t feel her body.
Blind.

Starts to feel,
softer, longer strokes.
but still is kept blind.

She feels her neck,
her collarbone.
everything below that is numb,
like it doesn’t exist.

Long periods of feeling an energy.
Someone is staring at her.
intently.
assessing.
measuring.

Time passes.
So much time in the dark.
she feels Brushing at her eyes.

She can see but it’s all fuzzy blobs.
like her pupils are dilated
and taking in too much light.

She can see his shape moving around the room in front of her.
Picking up long sticks,
He’s coming at her.
She runs away in her mind.

She wakes up, feels a soft cover over her.
A whirring sound around her, smell of wood and oil.

It’s dark, so dark. But she can see,
her eyes are working.

She’s being moved.
Hears voices. His, others.
Wheels squeaky. Pausing, then stopping.

She can’t feel her heart beat,
the numbness hasn’t gone away.

In fast motions the soft fabric is removed,
she’s spun, lifted, and placed.

Not able to blink,
she waits for her eyes to adjust to the bright light.

For the first time, sees the man.
Standing in front of her.
he reaches out to touch her,
tilting her perspective a fraction,
setting the world on the right axis.

This is the man who locked her down,
stroked her,
watched her for months.

He turns away,
Hugs a woman standing to the side,
and fades out of sight.

The new woman stares. Unmoving.
Pleasure radiating.

The woman leaves.
Turning lights off in the gallery.
Letting the spotlights stay on.

Leaving her alone, unwatched.
In the light.
