Loneliness

Loneliness

When I left the others, all the times before, I felt a momentary twinge in my stomach.
I called it sadness.
I had friends and now I didn’t.
Time to start again.

When I left him, my body failed.
Throat wouldn’t swallow, only gag.
Eyes wouldn’t cry, only burn.
Brain wouldn’t think, only fog.

Glass wind chimes being raked over bone-dry dirt by an off-tune humming woman.
No better description for the discordant, toneless, scrapping, sharp feeling.
It’s a foreground noise - my loneliness.
